At the age of three Guthrie was recognized as a child prodigy and sent to a fine arts school by his mother for his ability to play the violin. At age nine he built his own electric guitar as part of a failed school science project experiment with amplifying quantum noise. The experiment caused a city-wide power outage and the Fine Arts schools science lab was burned to the ground. After the incident the school board expelled Guthrie, deeming him “A socially awkward misfit who is more reckless and insane then Nikola Tesla was in Colorado Springs without any of the success to warrant his massive ego.” to the local news.

Guthrie’s parents decided to home school him from that point on, but the damage was already done. The incident and the public statement made about him humiliated Guthrie and spiraled the young prodigy into depression. However, it also sparked his obsession with Nikola Tesla, Swami Vivekenda, Srinivasa Ramanujan and Goth Culture. When Gothy first meets Bhalu he is in a state of distress after being kicked out of his apartment by his ex-girlfriend. He is still as socially awkward as ever but it doesn’t take long for Bhalu to realize that he’s not crazy… just misunderstood and in need of a little guidance.
